George III 1764 Guinea, second head, no stop above head

George III (1760-1820),gold Guinea, 1764, second laureate head right, no stop overhead, legend surrounds GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA., toothed border around rim both sides,rev.crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, legend M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B. ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T ET.E., weight 8.39g (Schneider 607; Bull EGC 673 R2; MCE 368; Farey 1030 R; S.3726). Original tone, mirrored around the periphery with an overt mint bloom on the reverse, all the main lines visible in the portrait with a comprehensive coat of arms, very rare in its date of issue, more so with no stop over head, bold fine perhaps marginally stronger, the reverse better. An essential date within the series.

The Latin legends translate to on obverse "George the Third by the Grace of God" continuing on the reverse in abbreviated Latin which if in shown in full reads "Magnae Britanniae Franciae et Hiberniae Rex Fidei Defensor Brun et Lunebergen-sis Dux, Sacri Romani Imperii Archi-Thesaurius et Elector" and translates as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire."

The total output of gold for the calendar year of 1764 was £843,153, where later years in the spade type guineas run to over three million pounds, with the peak year actually in the fourth head type for 1776 with just over five million pounds produced.
