George II 1759 Guinea, old head

George II (1727-60),gold Guinea, 1759, old laureate head left, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS. II. DEI. GRATIA. rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, abbreviated Latin legend, M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B.ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T.ET.E, edge grained, weight 8.35g (Schneider -; Bull EGC 623; MCE.332; Farey 1000; S.3680).Once cleaned, lightly toned with surface marks, good fine.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George II by the Grace of God" and continues on to the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire".

We note a high calendar year output of gold at £2,333,260 for 1759, the highest ever recorded up to this point in time.
