George II 1756 Half-Guinea, old head

George II (1727-60), gold Half-Guinea, 1756, old laureate head left, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS. II. DEI. GRATIA., rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, abbreviated Latin legend, M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B.ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T.ET.E edge grained, weight 4.22g (Schneider -; Bull EGC 658; MCE 364; S.3685). Toned, a bold very fine, the date not represented in the Schneider Collection.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George the Second by the Grace of God" and continues on to the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire".

We note the calendar year output for gold in 1756 was £492,983 after which there was a 12 month break with none produced during 1757.
