George II (1727-60),gold Half-Guinea, 1755, old laureate head left, legend surrounding GEORGIVS.II. DEI.GRATIA., toothed outer border both sides,rev.crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, abbreviated Latin legend, M.B.F. ET. H. REX. F.D. B.ET. L. D. S. R. I. A. T ET. E., weight 4.21g (EGC 657 R; Schneider 604; MCE 363; S.3685).Graded by NGC as MS62, tied for the finest graded, an exceptionally well-preserved specimen, and a very rare date.
NGC Certification 2153863-032 - we note a total of only seven pieces graded across both service.
The calendar year output of gold for 1755 totalled £224, 690.
The Latin legends translate to on obverse "George II by the Grace of God" continuing on the reverse in abbreviated Latin which if in shown in full reads "Magnae Britanniae Franciae et Hiberniae Rex Fidei Defensor Brun et Lunebergen-sis Dux, Sacri Romani Imperii Archi-Thesaurius et Elector" and translates as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire."
