George II 1738 Two-Guineas, obv.3 / rev.3, nine string harp

George II (1727-60), gold Two Guineas, 1738, young laureate head left, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS. II. DEI. GRATIA., variety with stop above centre of head, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, nine strings to Irish harp, abbreviated Latin legend, M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B.ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T.ET.E edge grained, weight 16.67g (Schneider obv.3/rev.3; MCE.291; S.3667B). Toned, practically very fine / very fine, and a rare die variety.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George II by the Grace of God" and continues on to the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire".
