George II (1727-60), gold Five Guineas, 1729, first young laureate bust left, Latin legend with pellet stops surrounding, GEORGIVS. II. DEI. GRATIA. translates as "George II by the Grace of God" toothed border surrounding, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of top crown, abbreviated Latin legend, .M. B. F. ET. H. REX. F. D.B. ET. L. D. S. R. I. A. T. ET. E. translates as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire," toothed border surrounding, edge inscribed in raised letters DECVS ET TVTAMEN ANNO REGNI TERTIO, translates as "An ornament and a safeguard, in the third year of the reign, weight 41.65g (Schneider 555; Schneider dies 1/1; Bull EGC 552 plate coin; King160; Holloway 80; MCE 278; S.3663). A touch of wear to high points, some flecking and surface marks, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58, much rarer than the East India issue, and the plate coin from English Gold Coinage.

NGC certification 2113951-063 - AU58 Out of a total of 22 pieces straight graded at both services only seven pieces are graded finer.

King Survey = 49 examples in commerce over the period 1960-2005.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George II by the Grace of God" and continues on to the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire".

We note the official mint record of gold output for 1729 totals zero production, but the following year of 1730 likely contains the 1729 dated coins at a total of £91,628 worth of Five Guineas and Half Guineas including the East India Company issue dated 1729 and Guineas and Half-Guineas dated 1730.
