George I 1719 Guinea XF40, fourth head, ex Ellerby Treasure
George I (1714-27), gold Guinea, 1719, fourth laureate head right, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS. D.G. M.B.FE. ET. HIB. REX. F.D., rev. crowned cruciform shields, incorporating the Arms of Hanover, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, large letter legend surrounding BRVN ET. L. DVX S.R.I.A.TH ET. EL., weight 8.32g (Schneider 548; Bull EGC 510 R; MCE 251; S.3631). Toned, with surface marks and wear, has been graded and conserved by NGC as XF40 with Ellerby Area Hoard label.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "George by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith" and on the reverse as "Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire."
For the calendar year of 1719 there was a total of £688,960 worth of gold produced at the Mint which would have consisted entirely of Guineas and Half-Guineas, though the Guineas would most probably have been the lion's share of this.
