George I 1717 silver Threepence, NGC MS63 second finest graded
George I (1714-27),silver threepence, 1717, laureate and draped bust right, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. DEI. GRA.,rev.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, legend reads .MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 1.51g (Bull.1623; ESC.2015; Robinson p.157:169; S.3655). Iridescent toning, with much eye appeal, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS63.
NGC Certification 8220387-016 - currently the joint second finest graded.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George I by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
The 1717 Fourpence, Threepence and Twopence are the only small silver coins of this date with no maundy set being available.
