France, Philippe VI (1328-50), gold Ecu d'Or a la Chaise, issue of 17th July 1346, King seated on Gothic throne, facing, holding scepter in each hand, all within tressure of arches, outer legend + PhILIPPVSxx DEIxx GRACIAxx FRAnCORVMxx REX, saltire stops, rev. + .XP'C: VInCIT: XP'C: REGNAT: XP'C: IMPERAT, triple annulet stops, ornate cross fleurée with quatrefoil in central compartment, voided quatrefoils on limbs with lis in fleury terminals, voided fleur de lis on cusps, all within quadrilobe with crowns in spandrels, 4.68g (Dup. 258; Fr. 269). Fully round, some raised striations in striking on reverse, otherwise toned good very fine a rare issue.
