France, Louis XV the Beloved (1715-74), gold Double Louis d'Or au bandeau, 1758-AA, Metz mint, LUD XV D G FR ET NAV REX, large head left with ribbon, CJR monogram on truncation for engraveur Joseph Charles Rœttiers, pansy below for mint master Nicolas Blaize, rev. crowned coats-of-arms of France and Navarre, AA mint mark below, date at end of legend CHRS REGN VINC IMPE 1758, edge grained, c. 16.30g (Fr 463; Gad. 346; Dup. 1642). Struck in 22 carat gold, lightly toned with a hint of peripheral hue, the "bandeau" type introduced at the request of the King himself in 1740 (he had just turned 30) proved to be a popular type continued until his death, graded by PCGS as AU55.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate on the obverse as "Louis the Fifteenth, by the Grace of God, King of France and Navarre" and on the reverse as "Christ reigns, conquers and commands".
