Fatimid, al-Fa’iz Abu’l-Qasim ‘Isa, Gold Dinar, Misr, AH [54]9, al-Imam ‘Isa.

Fatimid, al-Fa'iz Abu'l-Qasim 'Isa (AH 549-555 / 1154-1160 AD), gold Dinar, Misr, AH [54]9, al-imam 'isa, 4.05g, 6h (Album 741; Nicol 2673). Date partially struck up, a few marks, about extremely fine, rare.

Al-Fa'iz Abu'l-Qasim 'Isa, is known by his regnal name al-Fāʾiz bi-Naṣr Allāh, but cited here on his coin as the Imam 'Isa. He was only five years old when he was raised to the throne and the caliphate was effectively ruled by the vizier Tala'i ibn Ruzzik who initially tried to broker peace with invading crusaders by paying them tribute. Was this tribute paid with coins of the present type? If it was then it's interesting to note they bear the pre-accession name Isa not the regnal name al-Fāʾiz bi-Naṣr Allāh. Isa (Arabic:عِيسَى, romanized: ʿĪsā) is a Classical Arabic name which is the name given to Jesus in the Quran and other Islamic texts. [Wikipedia: Isa (name)].
