Elizabeth I (1558-1603), silver Three Farthings, 1574, London Mint, third and fourth issues (1561-77), small crowned bust left, rose behind, inner and outer beaded circle surrounding, initial mark eglantine both sides, E: D: G: ROSA: SINE: SPINA: rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, date above, CIVI TAS LON DON, weight 0.34g (BCW EG-1/EG-g2; N.2002; S.2571). Toned with an old river mud porosity, very fine, reverse stronger.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse, "Elizabeth, by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn." and on the reverse as "City of London."
