Elizabeth I (1558-1603), silver Sixpence, Fifth issue, 1578 with 8 over 7, crowned bust left, bust 5A, rose behind, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark Greek cross both sides, struck over eglantine on reverse, ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HI REGINA, rev. quartered shield of arms on cross fleury, date above, legend reads +POSVI DEV; AD IVTORE M. MEV;, weight 3.02g (BCW CR-2/CR-b; N 1997; S 2572). Toned and well centred, a bold to good very fine.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse, "Elizabeth, by the grace of God, Queen of England France and Ireland." and on the reverse as "I have made God my helper."
