Elizabeth I (1558-1601), Protestants Supported in the United Provinces, 1587, silver medal by Gerhard van Bijlaer, the queen enthroned facing, her feet on a hydra, is attended by a courtier, perhaps the Earl of Leicester, and five boys holding shields representing the Provinces, . DEO . OPT . MAX . LAVS . ET . HONOR . IN . OE . ÆVVM . QVOD . in exergue 1587, rev. the Pope, surrounded by bishops, cardinals and Jesuit monks, and religious emblems, fall from a cloud radiant with the name of God, QVM . DEVS . CONFICIET . SPIRITV . ORIS . SVI, 52mm (Eimer 53; MI i 139/99). Extremely fine and very rare.
