Elizabeth I Penny, second issue, bust 1H, mm martlet, square bead inner circles

Elizabeth I (1558-1603),silver Penny, London Mint, second issue (1560-61), crowned bust left, bust 1H, inner and outer beaded circle surrounding made up of square beads, initial mark martlet both sides, E. D. G. ROSA. SINE. SPINA,rev.long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, CIVI TAS LON DON, weight 0.42g (BCW MR-1A/MRa1; N.1988; S.2558).Toned, oval in shape, a bold to good very fine, the earlier variety with the square beads.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse, "Elizabeth, by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn." and on the reverse as "City of London."
