Elizabeth I (1558-1603),silver Penny, London Mint, second issue (1560-61), with SPINE for SPINA in legend, crowned bust left, bust 3H, inner and outer beaded circle surrounding, initial mark crosslet both sides, + E. D. G. ROSA. SINE. SPINE,rev.long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, +CIVI TAS LON DON, weight 0.41g (BCW CC-3 var./ CC-a7; N.1988; S.2558).Toned a little uneven in shape, a bold very fine, very rare legend spelling.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse, "Elizabeth, by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn." and on the reverse as "City of London."
