Elizabeth I Halfgroat

Elizabeth I (1558-1603), silver Half-Groat, first issue (1559-60), crowned bust left, type 1G, Latin legend and wire line circles surrounding both sides, initial mark lis, ELIZABETH. D;G; ANG; FRA; Z: HIB; RE; rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, initial mark small lis, POSVI DEV: AD IVTOR EM; MEV, weight 0.89g (BCW LS-1B/LS-a; N.1987; S.2552). A little creased both sides, rim nick, toned, good fine to almost very fine and rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Elizabeth by the Grace of God, Queen of England France and Ireland," and on the reverse "I have made God my Helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
