Edward VI Penny third period
Edward VI (1547-53), base issue silver Penny, seeded rose, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark escallop, E: D: G: ROSA: SINE: SPINA:, rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, CIVI TAS LON DON, weight 0.66g (N.1945; S.2474). Exceptionally well struck and toned for this base issue, extremely fine for issue and the best we have handled, rare thus.
The Latin legends on this coin translate as "Edward, by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn" on the obverse, "City of London" on the reverse.
