Edward VI 1553 Crown round top 3
Edward VI (1547-53), fine silver Crown, 1553, round top 3 in date, armoured King on decorated horse riding right, upright sword rests on shoulder, date below, Latin legend and linear circles surrounding, initial mark tun, EDWARD: VI: D; G; AGL': FRA': Z; hIB': REX: rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, linear and beaded circles surrounding with Latin legend, initial mark tun, POSVI DEV': A DIVTOR E': MEV; weight 30.67g (Lingford dies B-15; N.1933; S.2478). Toned, more weakly struck on reverse with associated striations and surface marks, about very fine and very rare with the true figure 3 with round top in this the final date for this denomination.
The Latin legends translate as "Edward the Sixth by the grace of God, King of England, France and Ireland" on the obverse and on the reverse "I have made God my helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
The more usually seen 1553 dated Crowns are the ones using the old 1552 dated obverse die with the 2 crudely altered to a 3. The true round top 3 piece is much harder to find.
