Edward the Confessor Penny, PACX type, London, Leofric
Edward the Confessor (1042-66), silver Penny, PACX type (1042-44), London Mint, Moneyer Leofric, diademed bust left with sceptre, bust to bottom of coin, Latin legend commences at top with toothed border surrounding, +EDPAR D REX, rev. pellet in annulet at centre of long voided cross with crescent at terminals, letters P A C X in inner angles, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, +LEO FRIC C ON L VND, weight 0.87g (Freeman 551; N.813; S.1171). Attractively toned, almost extremely fine and rare.
The Latin legends translate as "Edward King" on obverse and "Leofric of London" on the reverse.
This coin is listed in the article "The PACX type of Edward the Confessor" by Hugh Pagan in the British Numismatic Journal of 2011, page 75, dies Cc, number 295 this coin.
