Edward the Black Prince Hardi d'Argent Bordeaux

Edward the Black Prince (1362-72), silver Hardi d'Argent of one sterling, Bordeaux Mint, Prince half-length facing with finger pointing, sword resting upright on shoulder, plain diadem on head, pointed arch above, within linear circle, Latin abbreviated legend surrounding, Mint letter at end of legend, ED: PO: GnS R EG AGLIE: B, rev. long cross pattee, lis and lion in alternate angles, abbreviated Latin legend surrounding, *PRn CPS*R AQIT AnIE, weight 1.05g (Elias 202; AGC 224 dies 22/a; S.8134). Toned with reverse cross slightly ghosted through on obverse, very fine with a good face.

The abbreviated Latin legends should read in full on the obverse "Edwardvs primo genitvs Regis anglie Princeps Aqvitanie" which translates as "Edward, first born of the King of England, Prince of Aquitaine" and the reverse in full as "Princeps Aquitanie" for "Prince of Aquitaine."
