Edward the Black Prince Demi Gros Limoges

Edward the Black Prince (1362-72), silver Demi-Gros of two sterlings value, Limoges Mint, second issue, Prince in profile right pointing, with sword resting upright on shoulder, within tressure and beaded circle, Latin abbreviated legend surrounding, double annulet stops at start, other stops double cinquefoils, mint latter sat end of legend, +:ED:PO:GIT:REGIS:AnGLIE L, rev. long cross pattee, twin concentric legends and beaded circles, three pellets in each inner quarter, abbreviated Latin legend with chevron As, PRI CPS AQI TAn, :GLIA.I.E XCLC DO ETInTE RRA PAX, weight 2.18g (Elias 178d; AGC 195 dies 21/d; S.8131). Toned fine, bolder in parts and rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends should read in full on the obverse "Edwardvs primo genitvs Regis anglie Princeps Aqvitanie" which translates as "Edward, first born of the King of England, Prince of Aquitaine" and the reverse in full as "Princeps Aquitanie" for "Prince of Aquitaine" and "Gloria in excelcis deo et in terra pax" translates as "Glory to God in the highest and peace in this land."
