Ireland, Edward IV (1461-83), silver Groat, light coinage (c.1475), Waterford Mint, crowned facing bust within tressure of nine arcs, G on cusp below possibly for Moneyer German Lynch, beaded beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark pierced cross, EDWARDVSx DEIx GRAx DnSx hIBERn', rev. cross pattée, tri-pellets in each angle, two quarters with extra saltire, beaded circles and twin concentric legend surrounding, outer legend POSVI DEV'x A DIVTOR E'x MEV', inner legend CIVI TAS W ATER FORD, weight 1.67g (DF 134; S.6369C). Toned, has been lightly clipped around rim and tops of letters, the G below breast only partially visible due to raised die flaw, otherwise very fine for issue and rare.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward by the Grace of God, Lord of Ireland"; and on the reverse outer legend "I have made God my helper," a Psalm from the Bible; and on the inner legend "Town of Waterford."
