Edward III (1327-77), silver long cross Penny, Durham Mint, Pre-Treaty Period, class C, ecclesiastical issue under Bishop Hatfield, facing crowned bust in beaded circle, initial mark cross pattee and legend surrounding, beaded outer border, no stops, +EDWARDVS REX ANGLI, rev. long cross pattee, bottom limb ending in crozier, tri-pellets in each inner angle, beaded circles and legend around, CIVI TAS DVNE LmIE, with reverse barred N and lombardic m, weight 1.03g (N.1150; S.1592). Weak in parts, toned a bold fine to almost very fine and rare.
The Latin abbreviated legend translates as "Edward, King of the England" and on the reverse "City of Durham."
