Edward III (1327-77),gold Noble, Fourth Coinage, London Mint, Treaty Period (1361-69), without flag and omitting FRANC in legend, group B with annulet before E of Edward in legend, ships rigging ropes 3/1, Quatrefoils 4/4, King standing in ship with upright sword and quartered shield of arms, beaded circle surrounding, legend surrounds ED WΛRDxx DEIxx GRΛxx REXxx ΛnGLxx DnSxx hYBx Z x AQT, curule X in REX, last A barred,rev. initial mark cross potent,E at centre of ornamental cross with lis terminals, crowns over lions in angles, all within a beaded and linear tressure, fleurs in spandrels, legend +IhCxx ΛVTEmxxTRΛnSIEnSxx PERxx mEDIVxx ILLORVmxx IBAT, note last A barred, weight 7.49g (Schneider 86-87; Doubleday 226; N.1232; S.1503).Toned with some brighter elements to obverse perhaps from a light polishing, otherwise a bold very fine with a good face on the King.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward by the Grace of God, King of England, Lord of Ireland and Aquitaine"; and on the reverse "But Jesus, passing through the midst of them, went His way" taken from the Bible.

This coin was struck at the time of the Treaty of Bretigny when Edward III relaxed his claim to the French throne and therefore does not appear in the Latin titles upon the coinage.
