Edward III (1327-77), gold Quarter-Noble of one shilling and eight pence, fourth coinage, pre Treaty period, series Ga/Gd mule (1351-61), initial mark cross pattée, quartered shield of arms in tressure of eight arcs, trefoils on cusps, plain spandrels, legend and beaded borders surrounding, annulet stops, ЄDWΛR; R; ΛIIGL;7; FRΛIICx D;hy, rev. small Є at centre of ornate cross potent with lis terminals, trefoil in each inner angle, lion in each outer angle, all within beaded and linear tressure of eight arcs, legend and beaded border surrounding, saltire stops, reads ЄXΛLTΛBITVRx IIIx GΛhLORI, weight 1.92g (Schneider 44; Lawrence dies 1/1; Doubleday 148; N.1189/1190; S.1498). Graded by NGC as MS 64, extremely rare variety with small E at centre and four lis in upper left quarter of shield.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward by the Grace of God, King of England, Lord of Ireland," and on the reverse "He shall be exalted in glory," a Psalm from the Bible.
This coin matches Schneider 44 and Doubleday 148 which all have four lis in upper left quadrant of shield and a blobby tiny E at centre of reverse.
