Edward II Long Cross Penny, Bury St Edmunds, class 15c, ex Aberdeen Hoard and Stewart

Edward II (1307-27), silver long cross Penny, Bury St Edmunds Mint, class 15c, facing crowned bust in beaded circle, large face, initial mark cross pattee and legend surrounding, beaded outer border, large E, +EDWAR R ANGL DNS hYB, rev. long cross pattee, tri-pellets in each inner angle, beaded circles and legend around, VILL SCIE EMV NDI, weight 1.29g (N.1068; S.1465). Toned, weak in parts, about very fine.

The Latin abbreviated legend translates as "Edward, King of the England, Lord of Ireland" and on the reverse "Town of Saint Edmund"

Of the 15,000 or so coins found in this hoard less than 5% were of class 15. Breaking the numbers down further of the 248 pieces of all classes from this Mint only ten pieces were of this mint for class 15c.
