17th Century Token, Dorset, Wareham, Henry Harbin, Farthing, 1657, HH at centre with star above and below, all within linear circle, legend and toothed border surrounding, star at top with pierced cinquefoil stop, *HENRY* HARBIN, rev. date at centre with star above and below within beaded circle, legend and toothed border surrounding with star stops, *IN* WARHAM*, weight 0.80g (Boyne 116; BW.192). Toned good very fine and rare, only three issuers for the town.

In John Hutchins History and Antiquities of Dorset (i.122) in the pedigree of Gigger, Henry Harbin is listed as a mercer married to Mary Daccombe in 1665 and later (i.89) in a will dated 19th July 1703 as merchant later of London gave £200 to the Corporation of Wareham to purchase land to the value of £10 per annum for a person to instruct the poor children of the town in the English tongue, and the interest of £50 to be added if the principal was not sufficient.

Henry Harbin also provided money to build a brick tower at the west end of St Peters Church around 1700 when a merchant in London which was nearly destroyed by fire later in 1762 (i.109).
