Dorset 17th century Token, Poole, Richard Smith, Farthing, undated, Freeman

17th Century Token, Dorset, Poole, Richard Smith, Farthing, undated, sword with beaded circles and legend surrounding, star at top both sides, *RICHARD. SMITH. IN. POLL, rev. R*S at centre, cinquefoil stop, beaded circles and legend surrounding, *A FREEMAN. EINGLAND, weight 1.07g, (Boyne 75; BW 126). Toned, very fine.

This interesting token with its sword and Freeman legend may refer to a Freeman of the City of London now in Poole Dorset, more intriguing is the spelling error made by the engraver of the legend which should have read IN ENGLAND.
