Didia Clara, Silver Denarius

Didia Clara (daughter of Didius Julianus), mint of Rome, struck A.D. 193. DIDIA CLA - RA AVG, bust of Didia Clara facing right, her hair waved and coiled on the back of her head, rev. HILAR - TEMPOR, Hilaritas standing left, holding long palm and cornucopiae, 3.23g., 6h (RIC 10; C.3). Well centered with a sharp portrait and attractive, clearly defined features, light iridescent toning, good very fine/very fine.

The only daughter of Emperor Didius Julianus and his wife Manlia Scantilla, Didia Clara was supposedly one of the most beautiful women in Rome although regrettably little is known of her life, including her fate after the death of her father on the 1st June 193.
