Death of Oliver Cromwell, 1658, gold medal, laureate draped bust left, OLIVAR. R. D. G. RP. ANG. SCO. HIB. PRO, rev a shepherd attends to his flock near an olive tree, NON. DEFITIENT. OLIVA. SEP. 3. 1658, milled edge, 28mm (Eimer 201; MI i 434/84). Attractively toned, in PCGS holder graded SP61.

More than one pair of dies were used in this series and can be distinguished by the size and positioning of the legend. Within the varieties there are different stages of die cracks and also notable differences in the depth of the reverse strike. All medals of this type are rare.
