Commonwealth (1649-60), silver Crown, 1653, English shield within laurel and palm branch, legends in English language, initial mark sun, .THE. COMMONWEALTH. OF. ENGLAND., all letter Ns struck over inverted Ns, rev. English and Irish shields, value .V. above, beaded circle and legend surrounding, date at top, GOD. WITH. VS., with V over inverted A in VS, 29.60g (Bull 7 R3; ESC 6A; N.2721; S3214). Attractively toned, some annealing striations on reverse, good very fine to almost extremely fine and very rare.

The Commonwealth coins were the first in the British series to carry English language legends.
