Charlotte, Coronation, 1761.

Charlotte, Coronation, 1761, Silver Medal by Lorenz Natter, draped bust right, CHARLOTTA D.G. M. BR. FR. ET. HIB. REGINA., rev. the Queen crowned by Fame, QVAESITVM. MERITVS, in exergue CORON. XXII. SEPT MDCCLXI, 34mm (BHM 66 RR; Eimer 696). Without question one of the finest know, almost as struck, with reflective qualities and a subtle old-collection tone.

From a mintage of only 400 pieces which were struck from more than one pair of dies. This is the official coronation medal though it was not made at the Royal Mint.

A highly-gifted gem-engraver and die-cutter, Natter counted amongst his patrons Baron Philipp von Stosch, Christian VI of Denmark, Gian Gastone de' Medici, William IV of Orange, as well as George III and Caroline. In London he became a fellow of both the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Society.
