Charles II Pattern Silver Farthing Peck 407

Charles II (1660-85), silver Pattern Farthing, 1665, laureate and cuirassed bust left, two long tie ribbons, top one to O at end of legend, date below bust, legend surrounding with outer toothed border, CAROLVS .A. CAROLO, rev. struck en medaille, Britannia seated left on globe, with shield and spear, holding olive branch, BRITANNIA in exergue, legend QVATVOR. MA RIA . VINDICO, edge straight grained, weight 5.77g (Peck 407 dies 1a+A). Well struck, toned good very fine to about extremely fine and scarce.

The Latin abbreviated legends translate as "Charles son of Charles" and on the reverse "I claim the four seas," with "Britain" in the exergue.
