Charles II Pattern Halfpenny

Charles II (1660-85), copper Pattern Halfpenny, undated issue, laureate and cuirassed bust left, legend and raised rims surrounding both sides, CAROLVS .A. CAROLO, rev. struck en medaille, Britannia seated left on globe, with shield and spear, holding olive branch, BRITANNIA in exergue, legend QVATVOR. MAR IA . VINDICO, weight 9.58g (Peck 404). Struck a little weak at centre both sides, toned about very fine and rare.

The Latin abbreviated legends translate as "Charles son of Charles" and on the reverse "I claim the four seas," with "Britain" in the exergue.
