Charles II milled undated Penny

Charles II (1660-85), silver Penny, undated, first milled issue, crowned bust left, value I in field behind head, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, CAROLVS. II. D. G. M. B. F &. H. REX, rev. inverted die axis, quartered shield of arms over cross fleury, initial mark crown, CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO, weight 0.48g (N.p.210; Bull 589; ESC 2273; S.3389). Attractively toned, a little weak at centre otherwise extremely fine.

The Latin abbreviated legends translate as "Charles the Second, by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland" and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
