Charles II (1660-85), silver Halfgroat, third hammered issue (1661-62), crowned bust left, mark of value II behind in field, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding both sides, initial mark crown both sides, CAROLVS. II. D: G: MAG: BRI: FRA: ET. HIB REX, rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, .CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO. Weight 1.07g (Bull 326; N.2772; S.3326). Toned, weak in parts, struck on a broad flan, a bold very fine.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
