Charles II 2nd Issue gold Unite

Charles II (1660-85), gold Unite, second issue with mark of value behind laureate and draped bust left, initial mark crown, CAROLVS. II. D. G. MAG. BRIT. FRAN. ET. HIB. REX, outer beaded border both sides, rev. crowned quartered oval shield of arms, C to left, R to right, .FLORENT. CONCORDIA, REGNA. 9.13g (Schneider class II, obverse 3, reverse 2, Schneider Collection 391; N.2754; S.3304). Hairline scratch in obverse field, otherwise good very fine.

These gold Twenty Shilling pieces were the last hammered gold coins produced before the total adoption of milled machinery. The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "Through concord Kingdoms flourish."
