Charles II (1660-85),gold Two Guineas, 1680, reverse double struck, the undertype dramatically off-target with 80 of date underneath the 16, second laureate head right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, CAROLVS. II. DEI. GRATIA,rev.crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, four interlinked Cs at centre, date either side of top crown, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, .MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB REX. (Schneider -; Bull EGC 218 R; MCE 44; S.3335).Toned with a light red hue, a little wear to high points with surface marks, a couple of reverse rim imperfections, almost extremely fine / extremely fine, has been slabbed by NGC as AU details obverse cleaned yet the obverse is pleasantly toned like the reverse though not as copper red, the date not present in the Schneider Collection, rare and unusual.

NGC Certification 6671800-001.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles the second by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

The total gold output for the calendar year 1680 amounted to £572,046 worth of Five Guineas, Two Guineas, Guineas and Half-Guineas.
