Charles II (1660-85), Pattern silver Maundy Twopence, 1668, laureate and draped bust right, toothed outer borders both sides, legend surrounds CAROLVS. II DEI. GRATIA, rev. struck en médaille, two crowned interlinked C's, reads MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB. REX, weight 1.11g (Bull. 675; ESC. 2170; Robinson p147: 17; S.3388). Toned, has been graded by NGC as AU 58, extremely rare.

NGC certification 6769180-006. This coin is currently the finest graded example at NGC as of July 2024

Medal alignment was used exclusively for this year of issue, this as well as the omission of other Maundy coins struck for this date of 1668 has led weight to the theory that these were indeed Patterns.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Charles the Second, by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
