Charles I Sixpence Briot's second milled issue

Charles I (1625-49), silver Sixpence, Nicholas Briot's second Milled Issue (1638-39), crowned bust of King left in stellate lace collar, value behind with lozenge stop, beaded circle and legend surrounding, initial mark prostate anchor, CAROLVS. D:G: MAG. BRIT. FR. ET. HIB. REX., rev. inverted die axis, quartered shield of arms over long cross fourchee, beaded circle and legend surrounding, initial mark prostate anchor, CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO., weight 2.89g (Brooker 729; N.2306; S.2860). Toned, struck a little off-centre, with usual adjustment marks only visible in lower arms on reverse and corresponding part of obverse, one raised flaw in obverse field, very fine and nice to see the flan adjustment marks are less severe than usually seen for this issue.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "Charles by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland," and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
