Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Tower Mint, Group D, type 31, fourth crowned bust left, larger bust 3, double arched crown, large value XII in field behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark harp (1632-33) both sides, .CAROLVS D; G; MAG; BR; FR; ET. HI; REX., rev. ovoid quartered shield of arms, large C to left, large R to right, .CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO., weight 6.07g (Sharp D3/1; Brooker 476/475; N.2223; S.2789). Toned, once gilt, otherwise about very fine / very fine.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
