Charles I Shilling York mint VF35

Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, York Mint (1643-44), type 5, engraved by Nicholas Briot, crowned bust in stellate lace collar left, value XII in field behind with lozenge above, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides with lozenge stops, initial mark lion both sides, .CAROLVS. D: G. MAG. BRIT. FRAN. ET. HIB. REX, rev. struck en medaille, crowned oval quartered shield of arms with lion skin garniture, EBOR the Latin name of York in cartouche below, .CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO (Besley dies 2Dd; Brooker 1098; N.2320; S.2874). Toned a bold fine, reverse better, has been graded and slabbed by PCGS as VF35.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
