Charles I Shilling, Tower Mint, group C, type 2a, mint mark rose, Sharp C2/1

Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Tower Mint, Group C, type 2a, third crowned bust left just breaking inner circle, double arched crown with beaded arches, value XII in field behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark rose(1631-32) both sides, .CAROLVS D; G; MAG; BR; FR; ET. HI; REX, rev. quartered shield of arms in frame, .C.R. above, .CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO., weight 5.83g (Sharp C2/1; Brooker 459-461; N.2221; S.2787). Toned around legends, hairline scratch below value, some light flan striations and a little weakly struck on same part of legend both sides, otherwise almost very fine and a scarce type.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
