Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Tower mint under the King, Group F, bust I, type 4.4, initial mark triangle-in-circle both sides (1641-3), sixth large 'Briot's' bust left, value behind, CAROLVS. D. G. MAG. BRI. FRA. ET. HI. REX., rev. square-topped shield over cross moline, CHRISTO AVISPICE REGNO, 6.32g (Brooker 549-550; Sharp G1/2; N.2231; S.2799). Unevenly toned with some underlying brilliance, fine.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
