Charles I (1625-49), silver pattern Halfgroat, by Nicholas Briot, bare head bust in ruff right, linear inner and beaded outer border with legend surrounding, initial mark lozenge, .CAR. D: G. MAG. BRIT. FRAN. ET. HI. R, rev. inverted die axis, crowned pair of interlinked Cs, .B. below for Briot, legend with borders surrounding, FIDEI. DEFENSOR., weight 1.43g (Brooker 1255; N.2687; S.2856A). Toned with good clean fields as these coins are usually tooled, about very fine and rare without tooling.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland." and on the reverse as "Defender of the Faith."
