Charles I Halfcrown, York, type 7, ex Dawson

Charles I (1625-49), silver Halfcrown, York Mint, Type 7, King seated on horseback left, horse's tail between legs, beaded borders with abbreviated Latin legend surrounding, initial mark lion, CAROLVS. D. G. MAG. BRIT. FRAN. ET. HIB. REX., rev., Crowned oval shield with lion-skin garniture, Latin legend surrounding, terminal mark lion, CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO., weight 13.98g (Bull 562; Besly 2-G; Brooker 1086, N.2315; S.2869). Toned, with often seen usual striking flaw and deficiency in metal, otherwise well-struck, almost extremely fine with detail better than the plate coins in Bull and Brooker.

The abbreviated obverse legend translates as "Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland." and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
