Charles I gold Unite, Tower mint, mm rose (1631-32)

Charles I (1625-49), gold Unite of Twenty Shillings, Tower Mint, group C, third crowned bust left, class IIa, value XX in field behind, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, initial mark rose (1631-32), .CAROLVS. D; G; MAG; BR; FR; ET. HI; REX . rev. crowned quartered oval shield of arms, crowned C to left, crowned R to right, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, terminal mark rose, FLORENT CONCORDIA REGNA, no punctuation, weight 8.94g (Brooker 73/71; cf.Schneider 141; N.2150; S.2690). Quite double struck, rim chip, surface marks both sides, otherwise good fine, reverse better.

The abbreviated obverse legend translates as "Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland" and on the reverse "Through concord kingdoms flourish."

The original pyx trial records show that £145,310 of 22 carat crown gold was struck for this mint mark from 30th June 1631 until 21st June 1632.
