Charles I gold Double-Crown of Ten Shillings, Tower Mint mm anchor

Charles I (1625-49),gold Double-Crown, Tower Mint, group B, second crowned bust in ruff left, value behind, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark anchor (1628-29) both sides, CAROLVS D: G: MA: BR: FR: ET. HIB: REX,rev.crowned quartered flat topped shield of arms, CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT, no stops in legend, anchor flukes to left, 4.38g (cf. Schneider 181; Brooker 137; N.2161; S.2697).Of bright appearance with one tiny rim nick, raised die flaw on reverse, otherwise good very fine.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "Charles by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland," and on the reverse "God protects his worshippers." These gold coins are struck in 22 carat "crown" gold.

The anchor mint mark was in use from 1st April 1628 until 26th June 1629 and amounted to £137,358 worth of gold coins.
