Charles I (1625-1649), Gold Double Crown, Group A, class II, initial mark lis [1625], Tower mint, latin legend surrounds .CAROLVS D: G: MAG: BR: FR: ET HI: REX., bust left in coronation robes, inner and outer borders, rev. flat topped quartered shield of arms, crown above, reads CVLTORES. SVI. DEVS. PROTEGIT., weight 4.48g (SCBI Brooker 132; N 2159; S 2698). Some obverse raised die flaws, reverse to the left of shield an additional X shaped scratch, otherwise very fine with much eye appeal, a pleasing example of the initial coronation issue.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as " "Charles by the grace of God King of Great Britain France and Ireland" and on the reverse "God protects his worshippers"
